Conversations for Change: Polarized Identities, Common Values - Can We Relate to the Opposition?
Many of us feel that this is the most polarized that we have ever seen in our country. The Civil Rights and Vietnam War era may have rivaled our polarization in many ways, but wasn’t there also much more at stake? Poverty has decreased, civil rights reforms have been adopted, and we have extracted ourselves from our remaining hot war in Afghanistan. Of course, many significant challenges, conflicts and inequalities remain, both foreign and domestic, but do they match the level of partisan rhetoric between our major political parties?
In this conversation we focus not so much on establishing the facts of who is right or wrong, or whether something is a conspiracy theory, but on what values drive us. We will seek to better understand our beliefs and the perspectives of others through the topic of civic engagement through voting and elections. Please register below and join the conversation!
Conversations for Change is designed to foster greater understanding among individuals who may have different viewpoints. Participants in these small group conversations, guided by a trained host, practice being open and curious about all perspectives, with a focus on learning from one another.
