Our Community Reads: Pandemics, Politics, and Public Health

Dr. Ronald P. Hattis, MD, MPH, Associate Clinical Professor of Preventive Medicine, Loma Linda University School of Medicine, and Past President and current Secretary of the Beyond AIDS Foundation. Dr. Hattis will share his long history in the fight against HIV/AIDS beginning in the early ‘80s. He will tie that struggle with what he calls a “slow moving pandemic” to our current fight with a much faster moving pandemic, COVID-19.

This event is part of Our Community Reads 2021, which is an annual event of the Friends of the Aptos Branch Library, in partnership with Friends Chapters from Capitola, La Selva Beach, and for the first time, Felton, bringing people together to read a book, chosen by community members, and offers a series of related events to the public.
The events aim to create a shared experience that will increase appreciation for our community libraries and for our local bookstores; foster pride in the varied experiences that our area offers; and the enrichment –– culturally, intellectually, and emotionally –– that comes from the joy of reading! All events are hosted online by the Santa Cruz Public Libraries and are free and open to the public.
