How to Become a Certified FireWise Community
Come learn more about how to work with your neighbors to reduce wildland fire risk and chances of insurance policy cancellation. All are welcome to this free educational event. Deputy Fire Marshall Chief Marco Mack from Aptos/La Selva and Central Fire Districts will be on hand to answer questions and offer support for the FireWise Community application process. Leaders of the Prospect Heights FireSafe Community, the first established in Santa Cruz County, will also be available.
The FireWise Community certification program is associated with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and is recognized by some insurance carriers as beneficial to reducing overall wildland fire property risk.
Rural property residents are especially encouraged to participate.
