Camp Joy History
Come hear about Camp Joy’s past, present, and possible future from one of its founders, Beth Benjamin. Camp Joy is a small non-profit organic farm outside Boulder Creek that was founded in 1971. It has been cultivating flowers, vegetables, gardening enthusiasts and seasonal apprentices since then. Camp Joy has survived fire, drought, and the pandemic and continues to offer CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) subscriptions, an annual wreath sale, and a big plant sale on Mothers Day weekend.
Community-led Learning Presenter Bio: Beth Benjamin learned about gardening from Alan Chadwick at UCSC in 1967-1969, then she and Jim Nelson started Camp Joy to continue their joy in growing things. She has worked with Renee Shepherd since 1988 in the seed business. Both Camp Joy and Renee’s Garden flourish to this day.
