Clay Madden's Art Exhibit Reception

Clay Madden's Art Exhibit Reception

Come listen to the stories and inspiration for Clay’s approach to art and leave inspired to dabble in your own experiential art projects

Clay Madden is a self-taught artist who believes in experiential learning. He was taught at an early age by his mother to try different types of arts and crafts. “I have acquired my art skills by exploring different types of art projects….learning by doing.” Clay experiments in various mediums from calligraphy, gouache watercolor painting, enamel painting on tile, portrait drawings and most recently, mosaics. Clay has sprinkled in various classes to enhance his learning of techniques.

Clay draws inspiration from visiting fine art museums around the world. “This has enhanced my knowledge and appreciation for many types of art. I believe that the ability to accomplish some form of art is inherent in all humans.”

Clay is a retired educator and taught for the Santa Cruz City School District for over 30 years. Branciforte Library has been a big part of his family’s life. He started bringing his daughter to story time when she was two years old. “I firmly believe that the idea of public libraries is one of the greatest innovations in human development.  I am honored to be able to display my art at Branciforte Library.”
