Gardening with Native Plants and Starting Wildflowers from Seed
Come and learn about the amazing and diverse native flora of Santa Cruz County. Many of these species are great additions to home landscapes as demonstrated in the adjacent Felton Discovery Park Garden.
Gardening with native plants has so many benefits from supporting pollinators and biodiversity to saving water and promoting climate resilience. Fall is a great time to begin to add native plants to your home landscape and the Santa Cruz Public Library has a wealth of resources to help us garden with land stewardship in mind.
After a presentation, we’ll go outside to have a hands on workshop on starting and saving seeds for future planting. You will go home with baby seedlings, seeds and a list of helpful books that can be checked out from the library’s amazing collection. All materials will be provided but bring a pair of gloves if desired.
Community-led Learning Instructor Bio: Janice Kuch is a UC Master Gardener and has been gardening with California Native Plants for over 20 years.
