CalMatters: California's Community Colleges
Join CalMatters in a conversation about the pivotal role California Community Colleges play in educating and training California’s workforce to secure good-paying jobs and keep the state’s economy strong. The community college system, serving the largest and most diverse student body in higher education, is a crucial partner to help the state achieve its goal of 70 percent of working-aged Californians obtaining a postsecondary degree or certificate by 2030. In January 2024, Governor Newsom launched the development of a new Master Plan on Career Education with the goal of adequately preparing students for the workforce of tomorrow that includes high-paying and fulfilling career paths that don’t require college degrees. Join this online conversation to discuss how the 116 community colleges in California, serving 2 million students every year, keep up with the changing needs of students, employers, and industries, in a post-pandemic world.
