Knowing an ancestor’s occupation can help us understand more about our ancestor’s life, as well as open doors to further research. It can even help with challenges, such as distinguishing between same-named individuals. This program will review common resources and explore uncommon strategies to identify the work our ancestors did, find existing records and documents, and help us understand more about the world in which our ancestors lived.
Cathy Andrews is Senior Librarian for Adult Services with the Salinas Public Library, where she teaches the “Genealogy Basics” series and oversees genealogy resources, services and programming. Growing up in a family where stories and details about ancestors were woven into every family gathering, she has a deep appreciation for genealogy’s challenges and rewards.
