Zach Friend serves as Second District Supervisor for Santa Cruz County, a position he’s held since 2012. Prior to his election to the Board, Zach worked for the White House Council of Economic Advisers, U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives and for nearly a decade with the Santa Cruz Police Department asa press information officer and crime analyst. Additionally, Zach has served on Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns as a battleground press secretary.

Michael Watkins is a founding member and currently serves as President of the California Association of African American Superintendents and Administrators, a group of educational leaders committed to addressing critical issues in education as they relate to African American students in CA. In 2006, Michael was the first African-American elected as Santa Cruz County Superintendent of Schools, a position he held for 12 years.
